SSN Institutions on Google Earth

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

My previous post had a couple of snapshots of SSN Institutions campus from Google Earth. Now, I’ve created a KMZ file that you can open in Google Earth to see all the different buildings.

Download the KMZ.

Prayer Club

Monday, May 29th, 2006

I’ve lost count of the numerous prayer clubs that have opened for the students of Anna University taking up their semester exams. Seems to happen almost every semester.

Though the prayer club is primarily for one person, I think it would be better to have a city wide effect (at least on Anna Univ affiliated college students).

Good luck fellas. May the Force be with you.

College Day

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

I went to my sister’s college day function today as she was receiving some certificate. For some reason, the way the function started reminded me of my school day celebrations. Every year in school, the students would put up a show for the benefit of all the parents. The college day seemed to be no different.

However, it was what came next that brought me back to reality - the long speeches and then the prize distribution ceremony, a feature that was lacking in the school day celebrations. However, I did find that the entire function did have a kind of college enthu that you wouldn’t really find in a school. But then again, it definitely didn’t match up to the kind of screaming that we would have done in our days in the college.

On a side note, once the function was nearing completion, we planned to leave, only to find ourselves locked in. There were two security guards, one on the inside and the other outside, both of them insisting that they didn’t have the key. It took a bit of cajoling and a lot more angry shouting to convince them to open the gate some ten minutes later…

Instincts ‘06

SSN Institutions is conducting an inter-college cul-fest - Instincts ‘06 on March 2, 3 and 4. Knowing the way we organized our own intra-college cul-fest in our days, Instincts ought to be a smash hit.

Engineering

Friday, July 29th, 2005

It seems to happen to almost everybody nowadays. Arrears, the “bane” (?) of engineering students. Hell guys, it’s sometimes a fact that you have to accept, regardless of whether you are in Madras University or Anna University, you will get an arrear.

Take my case for example, I (along with a great gang, including the college topper) flunked a major paper in my 5th semester - Digital Communication (incidentally, that paper was pretty easy). Another paper in which I did badly (Communication Theory) resulted in pretty good marks. (A.N. - This led us to formulate a rule regarding Madras University exams and corrections, which basically states that the expected marks are inversely proportional to the actual marks). At that time, Madras University had no concept of re-evaluation or even retotalling. So we had no choice but to write the arrear paper, which I found pretty difficult, but wound up getting excellent marks in that (see above rule).

In the 6th sem, I cleared the Digital Communication arrear paper, but flunked Microwave Engineering as well, but managed to clear it in the re-eval (which U.M. had brought out by then). The comic point of it was that before the results came out (I was still pending in Digital communication at that time), placements had started, but my college was sympathetic towards my case and allowed me to go ahead with my placement tests. Had they not allowed me to take the test then, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

So, I just have this to say. Arrears are a part and parcel of any engineering student’s life, you may not want them, but sometimes you have no choice. Grin and bear it.

Prayer Club

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

OK guys, its that time of year again, when we (re)start the prayer club for Magix and his friends. Eggjam time baa. After one horribly tough paper, Magix is almost ready to heap Curses on his university paper setters. OK, bad pun.

Seri freeya vidu. All wishes to them to clear their papers without any arrears. And for those who want to say “Arrear illadha manidhan arai manidhan“, think once again. Madras University was nothing compared to these new tyrants. As far as the underdogs are concerned, only thing is to complete 4 years of service under the demons and ESKAEP!!!

Good luck guys. May the Force be with you.
