That Four Letter Word

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

That Four Letter Word (yeah, that’s the name of the movie!), written and directed by Sudhish Kamath, is a new style of film. The story, yeah, pretty much the same old one… boy meets girl, falls in love, fear of losing her if he proposes, blah blah blah… but the way TFLW takes you through the story is completely new. The movie is a refreshing change from the usual “professionally done” flicks.

Sudhish has finally realized his dream of making his own movie, and it has taken him seven years to come to this stage. This movie is all about chasing your dreams. Shot on a shoestring budget, the movie is moderately paced throughout, with a few comic scenes here and there, and no chance of you getting bored. This is a youth film, made by the young, for the young.

My verdict? Definitely a must see.

Personal Loans & Me

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I couldn’t resist this. Today when somebody from ICICI called me for a personal loan, I told them that I wanted a loan for Re. 1. The lady on the other end was flabbergasted to say the least.

Thanks Gautam.

Prayer Club

Monday, May 29th, 2006

I’ve lost count of the numerous prayer clubs that have opened for the students of Anna University taking up their semester exams. Seems to happen almost every semester.

Though the prayer club is primarily for one person, I think it would be better to have a city wide effect (at least on Anna Univ affiliated college students).

Good luck fellas. May the Force be with you.

Mokkai Meet

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Yesterday, I met up with some orkut friends at a place called Mocha. This joint’s located on Khadar Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkam.

My first impression of the place is that it’s horrendously expensive. Oru kaapi-ku 60 rubaava???

Secondly, the place was filled with smoke from the hukkah (or whatever you call it), and for poor people like me, it’s a killer…

Never again…

49-O

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Just got back from the voting booth…

It’s disgusting… the way 49-O has been circulated around in the media, and still the polling officers are asking “What is 49-O?”.

Does your booth officer know about the 49-O clause? Has it been exercised?

For those of you who are not aware of it, 49-O is an option where you can say that you are not satisfied with any of the candidates and still exercise your right to vote.

College Day

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

I went to my sister’s college day function today as she was receiving some certificate. For some reason, the way the function started reminded me of my school day celebrations. Every year in school, the students would put up a show for the benefit of all the parents. The college day seemed to be no different.

However, it was what came next that brought me back to reality - the long speeches and then the prize distribution ceremony, a feature that was lacking in the school day celebrations. However, I did find that the entire function did have a kind of college enthu that you wouldn’t really find in a school. But then again, it definitely didn’t match up to the kind of screaming that we would have done in our days in the college.

On a side note, once the function was nearing completion, we planned to leave, only to find ourselves locked in. There were two security guards, one on the inside and the other outside, both of them insisting that they didn’t have the key. It took a bit of cajoling and a lot more angry shouting to convince them to open the gate some ten minutes later…

The Life And Times of Prathapa Mudaliar

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

This book - The Life and times of Prathapa Mudaliar - is the English translation of the first Tamil novel - Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram. I attended the Chennai book release yesterday (and incidentally met up with Ravi after a long time) at Book Point opposite Spencer’s Plaza.

The book was written by Vedanayakam Pillai back in 1857, but till now, no efforts were made to translate it. The translation was done by my aunt, Dr. Meenakshi Tyagarajan and the book was published by Katha. The book was formally released yesterday in Chennai by Shri Ashokamithran (the writer’s writer, as Lazygeek would call him).

The novel, in itself, is a very interesting tale. Pull out a copy, and sit down for an enjoyable evening.

Indraya Thathuvam

Angry SMSes

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I received a rather strange SMS a couple of days back. The content was rather direct, but I don’t think it was intended for me. All I know is that it came from a Chennai Airtel number. See for yourself…

“I am fed up of ur talks . The only thing i like is ur back”

What do you think?
