Review: Saroja
Venkat Prabhu’s latest venture has all the makings of a superhit blockbuster movie (according to other reviews out there). I had a chance to see Saroja last night at IMC6 in San Jose.
Verdict: A movie about friends who are on the way to see a cricket match, and get lost along the way. They wind up getting punched, kicked, beaten up and shot at. Good suspense, thrills, and cheesy comedy. Overall, a good movie, if a bit slow at times.

FAQ
Q: Is Saroja a family movie?
A: I wouldn’t give it a G rating, but i don’t think it really deserves an R either. I’d probably rate this move as around a PG-13. But then again, I’m not a member of the censor board.
Q: How are the songs?
A: Quite good. Yuvan Shankar Raja has delivered yet again.
Q: Background music?
A: This is the really nice part of the movie. You have bits and pieces from other movies like the car scene music from Karagattakaaran, Athiredee from Sivaji: The Boss, etc. The music really serves to highlight some of the comedy in the movie.
Q: Is it a comedy flick?
A: I’d say it’s more of a suspense thriller with intermittent comedy. You have a character who acts like a complete idiot, in total ignorance of the situation. I feel the comedy could have been better; at least by improving the cheesy jokes.
Q: How believable is it?
A: Look at it this way; four friends, unarmed, go one-on-one against an armed gang of nearly twenty and come out victorious. A fair share of MacGyverisms, with the absence of the Swiss army knife and roll of duct tape.
Q: Anything else?
A: Yes! I wish I had a remote control to fast-forward the movie!!!
