An old friend and I were chatting yesterday when he mentioned something that really shocked me. Apparently at his university, when they want to upgrade their PCs, they just throw, and I mean throw, the old PCs out on to the road. There they lie, broken and smashed, for the garbage man to collect.
Come on, at least place it properly or sell it. Just because the university is paying for the PCs doesn’t mean that you have to throw the old ones out. Selling them at about $100 or even less could give the university a lot of money, which would otherwise go wasted.
What’s your opinion on this?
Google is looking for organizations to beta test their new GMail for domains. As a GMail user, I’d love to have something like this on my domain, but I guess they wouldn’t really accept my application to beta test it. (Besides, I really don’t have the time to test it…). But I’d love it when it comes out in production.
I have watched the entire Matrix trilogy, especially the car chase scene in Reloaded, at least a dozen times. What captured my attention was the phone that Morpheus used in Reloaded. I surfed around a bit and found the phone – Samsung SPH-N270. The phone design is amazingly cool. But unfortunately, it lacks in features – no Java, no games. But for what it lacks, it pretty much makes up by what it offers. The interface is superbly designed, each menu displaying a short clip from the Matrix and from Reloaded. One of the ringtones even features Cypher’s dialogue from the original movie – “Why, oh why didn’t I take the blue pill?”
One thing to note is that this is a fully functional phone and not a toy. The tragic part is that the phone was only offered for the American CDMA and AMPS networks, and hence is totally incompatible with GSM networks here. The second tragedy is the price – approximately USD 500. The third – it’s no longer available in the markets. But for the price, the offering doesn’t really seem worth it.
The funny part is that I drool at these gadgets so much that I’d love to have one. But I am my own enemy when it comes to purchasing these gadgets. That’s when my common sense takes over…
