I do agree that people perform well under competition - but why the necessity to perform well - to better others? In other words, to compete against others and to beat them.
So, the final word is that it is a dangerous vicious circle. Just like the fish which get eaten, even after having mightily beaten the shark which tried to eat them.</description>
