A Nightmare on Rukmani Street
This week, the situation on my street was an absolute nightmare. On Tuesday night, Athai’s computer monitor failed. I planned to check it later, but during the night, the power got cut due to a major cable fault. On Wednesday, the Electricity Board people came, but were unable to locate the cable. However, they managed to give us a temporary connection which we could not apply too much load. Yesterday, they managed to locate the cable which had burnt through and short circuited, and patched it.
However, when I tried to connect to the internet, some fault occurred and I was unable to connect. Suddenly the computer restarted, how I still have absolutely no idea. Then it refused to even boot! I initially thought it was a problem with one of the IDE devices, but now I think it was the fan. I took it out and cleaned it with a blast of compressed air. Considering the amount of dust that was stuck inside, I’m not surprised the cooling efficiency had reduced. However, I don’t think I reconnected it properly, and as a result, when I restarted the computer, I began to get a burning smell from inside the cabinet. I immediately switched off the power, and called a repair guy. He’s due any minute now. I’m just hoping that my processor hasn’t burnt out…
