Superstaru Yarunnu Ketta…

A must read for Rajini fans, and those who enjoy a good laugh.

Rajinikanth was bragging to Jayalalitha one day, You know, I know everyone there is to know. Just name someone, anyone, and I know them. Tired of his boasting, Jayalalitha called his bluff, “OK, Rajini how about Tom Cruise?” “Sure, yes, Tom and I are old friends, and I can prove it.”

So Rajini and Jayalalitha fly out to Hollywood and knock on Tom Cruise’s door, and sure enough, Tom Cruise shouts, “Thalaiva! Great to see you! You and your friend come right in and join me for lunch!”

Although impressed, Jayalalitha is still skeptical. After they leave Cruise’s house, she tells Rajini that she thinks Rajini knowing Cruise was just lucky.

“No, no, just name anyone else”, Rajini says. “President Bush”, Jayalalitha quickly retorts.

“Yes”, Rajini says, “I know him, let’s fly out to Washington”. And off they go.

At the White House, Bush spots Rajini on the tour and motions him, saying, “Rajini, what a surprise, I was just on my way to a meeting, but you and your friend come on in and let’s have a cup of coffee first and catch up.”

Well, Jayalalitha is very shaken by now, but still not totally convinced. After they leave the White House grounds, she expresses his doubts to Rajini who again implores her to name anyone else. “The Pope”, Jayalalitha replies.
“Sure!”, says Rajini. “My folks are from Poland, and I’ve known the Pope a long time.” So off they fly to Rome.

Rajini and Jayalalitha are assembled with the masses in Vatican Square when Rajini says, “This will never work. I can’t catch the Pope’s eye among all these people. Tell you what, I know all the guards so let me just go upstairs and I’ll come out on the balcony with the Pope.”

And he disappears into the crowd headed toward the Vatican. Sure enough, half an hour later Rajini emerges with the Pope on the balcony. But by the time Rajini returns, he finds that Jayalalitha had a heart attack and is surrounded by paramedics. Working his way to Jayalalitha’ side, Rajini asks her, “What happened?” Jayalalitha looks up and says, I was doing fine until you and the Pope came out on the balcony and the man next to me said, “Who’s that on the balcony with Rajini?”

Reunion!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2004

My doctor cousin and her husband arrived here today morning for a short visit. They are staying in Dallas, Texas. It’s been three years since we saw them last, and most of all, my grandmother is the happiest to see them.

The Nightmare Reloaded!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2004

Remember the virus I said that I deleted? Well, it turned out to be the Beagle worm and had gone into a relatively major infection of my computer. I ran a scan on Sunday and it didn’t turn out much but a bunch of false extensions. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but when I ran a scan today, it turned up 393 infected files, all infected by Beagle. So far, I think that all the infected files have been deleted, and no new files turned up when I ran the scan again, so I hope that my laptop’s clean now.

My aunt’s monitor seems to have gone for a huge sixer. The monitor repair guy says that the Line Out Transformer could be damaged, resulting in a short circuit somewhere on the board. Anyway, I’ve given her my monitor as my computer is still in a comatose condition.

More nightmares!

Saturday, April 24th, 2004

Well the repair guy came yesterday. What he found shocked me. The BIOS chip had short-circuited, giving out a burning smell. He’s now taken the motherboard, processor and RAM chips for testing, but has not got in touch with me about the status of either of them yet. To top it all off, a virus somehow managed to enter my laptop, but I think I’ve got it isolated and deleted. Phew!!!

A Nightmare on Rukmani Street

Friday, April 23rd, 2004

This week, the situation on my street was an absolute nightmare. On Tuesday night, Athai’s computer monitor failed. I planned to check it later, but during the night, the power got cut due to a major cable fault. On Wednesday, the Electricity Board people came, but were unable to locate the cable. However, they managed to give us a temporary connection which we could not apply too much load. Yesterday, they managed to locate the cable which had burnt through and short circuited, and patched it.

However, when I tried to connect to the internet, some fault occurred and I was unable to connect. Suddenly the computer restarted, how I still have absolutely no idea. Then it refused to even boot! I initially thought it was a problem with one of the IDE devices, but now I think it was the fan. I took it out and cleaned it with a blast of compressed air. Considering the amount of dust that was stuck inside, I’m not surprised the cooling efficiency had reduced. However, I don’t think I reconnected it properly, and as a result, when I restarted the computer, I began to get a burning smell from inside the cabinet. I immediately switched off the power, and called a repair guy. He’s due any minute now. I’m just hoping that my processor hasn’t burnt out…

New GMail account!

Friday, April 23rd, 2004

As an active Blogger user, I have been chosen by Google to be a beta tester for their latest service, GMail. The interface is simple and easy to use. Though I still don’t know what I’m supposed to do to help with their beta tests…

Three Down!

Monday, April 19th, 2004

Three of my exams are over, and I have an Image Processing paper tomorrow. I got some interesting SMSes that would be applicable to a typical engineering student.

The 3 Poem: 3 months of lectures, 3 weeks of cycle tests, 3 days of study, 3 hours of exams, and 3 minutes of correction. That’s engineering!

Another one: An ocean full of syllabus, a river full of questions. A bucketful we have studied, only a mug level we can write. Marks come like drops. That’s engineering for you!

Ek Ho Gaya, Sirf Chaar Hai!

Wednesday, April 7th, 2004

My first of the final examinations got over today. It was a typical University of Madras paper - everything seems to be from the syllabus, but nobody can tell where the stuff is! I’m still confused whether the paper they gave us was really a Telecommunication Switching Networks paper…

Project completed!

Thursday, April 1st, 2004

We had our project demo today and all went off quite well. I’m a bit rather surprised that our external examiner was so quiet, she didn’t even open her mouth during our presentation. And before that, our HOD told us that we didn’t even need to give a demo. Let’s see how many marks we get…
