Net Down

Thursday, January 29th, 2004

My cable company has finally pulled the plug on my internet connection. I was complaining to them that I wasn’t getting the bandwidth that I was paying for and told them that I wouldn’t pay them until the fixed the problem. Well, finally, I told them to go and stick it up their rearside and cut the damned connection, which took them over 5 months to do it. Anyway, now I’m back to good ol’ dial-up VSNL. Or should I say Tata Indicom? Whatever…

Odyssey Quiz 2004

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Today afternoon, I went with Prasanna to the Odyssey Quiz being held in Music Academy. The quiz was totally amazing, except that we didn’t know the answers to most of the questions, though we did get a couple of wild guesses right. I also met Vidya, who studied with me in school. It had been quite a while since I met with anybody from school (apart from Ranga & KK of course)

Saarang 2004

Monday, January 26th, 2004

I went with my class guys to Saarang Choreonite yesterday. The dances were absolutely amazing, as were the beats in the accompanying music.

The coordinator mentioned that a laser show was being held for us. After about 10 minutes during which they were unable to switch off the lights near the exits, the show simply continued with the lights on. There was some green laser instrument in the background, and plenty of smoke between the laser and the screen. But we didn’t find it all that interesting, why, with just IIT Madras together with e-Serve presents Saarang 2004, thanks to video, audio & laser crew, that’s it. Though I have to admit that the laser effect was quite good.

Anyway, the show continued after the laser show. However, we got a bit rather bored after a couple of hours, and a tad more hungry than usual. Venky, Chocku and I thought we could slip out for a bite and get back in before the volunteers at the exits told us “NO RE-ENTRY”. With our stomachs still growling, we headed toward the snack bar at one of the other exits (I think it was the exit opposite the Garden Gate). I was shocked when the Pizza Corner guy there said that a veg pizza was 50 bucks! The pizza was too small to satiate my appetite. I thought it was too expensive and settled for a 7-Up. About a half hour after that, we got really bored and decided to escape. We managed to get a bus to the main gate within about 10 minutes and were on our way at about 9.30.

After that, Sathish, Muthu, Chocku, Venky & I went to Adyar Ananda Bhavan for some grub. All that was available was bhelpuri, dahipuri, panipuri and dahipapdi. We ordered everything except the panipuri. After that chaat, Venky & I went to Pizza Corner (which was right next door) and shared a pizza. Not too bad, except that I usually order from Domino’s, whose pizzas are definitely better.

Chennai Bloggers Meet

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

I’m back from the 2nd Chennai Bloggers’ Meet - code named Gumbal, Sundal and a lil bit of Bloggal. It was quite a bit of fun, and I got to meet my fellow bloggers face to face for the first time. Now I’ve also added some more people to my links, so hope to see them more in the future.

I also met some IIT junta who will be playing in the rock concert at Saarang 2004. I have told them that I’ll be there. I’m sure that they will play well.

Chennai Bloggers Meet

Just saw the info about the CBM-2004. This is going to be my first meeting as I missed the one they held back in March last year. That time, I saw Krib’s mail a bit too late. I’m still slow in checking my mailbox. :-). Anyway, I informed KK about it, and he’s said he’ll surely attend. I’ll know atleast one person at the meet. KK would probably know more of them (I hope) as he attended last time.

Chelli Athai has just finished translating Pratapa Mudaliar Charithram from Tamil to English. I have just finished formatting the rest of the text to consistent nature. We should have it printed by Saturday evening. Then we have to send it to Katha in New Delhi for publishing.

A Day Out

Sunday, January 11th, 2004

Today, I went with Dharmesh, Rahul and Yashwanth’s nephew to see Finding Nemo. Luckily for me, Dharmesh had got the tickets beforehand and we were able to get into the theatre. The movie was absolutely amazing. I don’t think I enjoyed any movie as much as I did Finding Nemo. The animations were absolutely out of this world.

I had got the DVD from Mahesh sometime back, but the sound and video were totally out of sync from the second half hour onwards. With the end result that I did see only the first half hour of the movie, before seeing it in Studio 5.

The rest of the day, I spent with Dharmesh, getting some E-books, songs and software.

Project

So far so good. The review went off well. Now we have to start working on the processor implementation.

A couple of guys from Vi Microsystems came yesterday to the college and tried to get the kit to work for the real-time applications. They managed to show me the output of the ADC, but the DAC did not work. They said they would e-mail me the DAC code but haven’t done anything so far.

I’ve told PCR about this and he’s said that he’ll talk to them. So now we’ve decided to at least simulate the processor code using VisualDSP++. I just hope that we can complete it in time.

Project

Well, one good thing about the review now is that we don’t have to show a demo, just the results that we have got so far. But then, we have to start working on the slideshow…
