My project review is drawing closer every second. On Tuesday, I’m supposed to show the simulation for So’s method and the implementation for Widrow’s method in VisualDSP++. Somehow, the code which worked a few months back is not working now. I don’t know what the cause is. Thankfully, I still have the graphs from that time, so I can atleast show something to PCR & the HOD.

I just purchased a new Nokia 3315 mobile yesterday. When I asked for the connection, I asked for any one of a list of numbers. The folks over at AirTel made sure I could never forget my grandfather’s birthday. He was the one who gave me the money to buy the connection. My mobile number is 98403 40916. My grandfather’s birthday is 4th September 1916. Funny, none of the other numbers I asked for were available…

Venky, Muthu & I went to college today to work on the project. We had only just started when Ramakrishnan came in and told us to leave the lab as M.E. practical exams were to be held there. What a total waste! Anyway, we went to PCR’s room and showed him the simulation results. He told us to make a few changes which we did then and there and he seemed pleased with the results. I also showed him the assembly code for the Widrow adaptive noise canceller. He has agreed to let us show that for the review. So hopefully, we’ll get some attendance for these 10 days till 1st December. In any case, the project is atleast 75% complete. All that remains is the simulation of So’s method for multiple frequencies and it’s implementation. Maybe if there is enough time, we’ll also go in for adaptive notch filters.

Unfortunately, Raju Solomon won’t be able to accompany us on our trip to IIT Bombay, as he has to go for paper evaluation from 6th to 10th of December. In any case, we called up Prof. Biswas at IIT, and he said that the coach need not be present during the regionals but only during the finals. So, I have to cancel Raju Solomon’s ticket and keep our three reservations intact.
Update: I have cancelled Solomon’s reservation, albeit having to wait in the queue for one and a half hours. Sigh…

It’s rather shocking to hear that the CAT2003 papers were leaked and hence the exam held today was cancelled. It is a total waste of 2 hours, especially on a Sunday, more for people like Kartik who had to go out of the way to go to the center. I didn’t write CAT as I’m not interested in management, but all the same, it’s rather disturbing that the papers of such a high profile exam were leaked. Something should be done to improve the secrecy of the papers. Hmm, I feel an idea forming already…

Nothing major happened today. We went to see PCR about our project, and wound up getting totally confused about DSP. I stayed in college till the afternoon, and finally managed to recover my CD which had been in circulation for over 2 months.

College reopened today for us to begin the final semester. It began on a rather enjoyable note, as the time table has not yet been posted, and our classes have not been allotted, and as a result, we spent the morning playing cricket.
It seems that Blogger has some issues in connecting to Tripod for uploading the files. Until such time as that can be resolved, my blogs will be posted on the other site, i.e. nirenjan.blogspot.com.

Excellent news. The college has agreed to pay our registration and travel charges for ICPC 2003. I just sent the draft to IIT Bombay today afternoon. I hope it reaches IIT in time.
As for the cricket match, I think some work should be done on improving the pitches here in India. Although they have nice bounce during the first session, they start slowing down quickly and it becomes quite difficult to chase a big total. I think KK would agree with me on this point.

Hmm, this posting form looks different. I wonder if it is because I am on Win98/IE5 or whether they have changed the form altogether. In any case, I’ve noticed some issues with the IE5 rendering engine. First, it doesn’t seem to understand the CSS code that I’ve given. Secondly, it allows the Tripod ad to render on top of the DIVs, thus hiding the top 60 odd pixels. In short, it looks terrible. I need to find out how to fix this.
Update:The cause of the different posting form was IE5/Win98.

I’ve just added a commenting system to the blog. KK suggested HaloScan since YACCS is no longer accepting new users. I have to try it out first.
Anyway, my exams are finally over, though I don’t have much of a vacation. I gave the TA/DA requisition letter to the princi for sponsoring our trip to IIT, Powai. He then dropped a bombshell saying that he had to discuss it with the management and that they may not give the entire money. Well, I just told him to give whatever he can. Something’s better than nothing! He said he’ll get back to me on Tuesday. I still have to get the DD and book the tickets. Somehow, I’ll have to get a letter from the Princi certifying us as bonafide students of the college by Tuesday maximum, coz it has to reach IIT by Thursday by either courier or speed post. I just hope we can do it in time.

I’ve just got the news that we were actually selected for the ICPC regionals at IIT Bombay. I don’t know why our team name wasn’t there earlier but it’s there now. I’m so happy. Probably coz we wrote a letter to those people asking them why we weren’t selected. B-) or what?

I’ve just finished converting the rest of my site to the new design. I hope it works properly. I’ve also put up a hex viewer in the Software section. Check it out.

Well, I’ve finished reinstalling Visual Studio and the printer, plus I shared the printer so that anybody could use it. I’ve started studying for my Consumer Electronics exam on Saturday. It’s a pretty easy paper as most of it is what we have already covered earlier in the course. I just hope that the question paper is as easy as the subject.

Well, I bought the hub today and connected the systems together, but I was having some major problems in configuring this laptop to connect to the internet, though I was able to get it connected otherwise to the network. In the end, some people from Appa’s office called me & guided me in setting up the network. I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm, but I disabled a lot of unwanted services, in the process disabling one wanted service, the fast user switching feature of Windows XP. So now, I am unable to switch users which is a major disability. Maybe I should try the old technique of “upgrading” XP to XP. It seems to overwrite the old system files and may even reenable some of those old services.

Looks like when I rearranged the site, I forgot to copy the style sheets as well. That’s done now.
