Beginning on the new year, my site will have a completely new look. It will still be hosted by Tripod, but the blogs, till now, manually scripted by me, will now be managed by Blogger. Hosting it on Tripod will give me a few more advantages over hosting it on Blogspot. This move is primarily for KK, who is so upset by my not touching my Blogspot blog. I think he will still be upset, but hopefully, less upset…

I just finished changing the Enigma files. Apparently, Tripod sends CAB files as text, thereby screwing up the archive. I changed it to ZIP without any problems so far.

I’m still in a stage where I feel I can improve on my site, but it’s taking ages for ideas to surface and fully materialise. Maybe I should revert to Blogger…

Yet another Christmas has come & gone. Apparently, Shiv Nadar is visiting the college today, to give a talk to the first batch of MS-IT students. Good thing they didn’t ask us to attend college. Even if they did, I doubt anybody would have gone.

With only 6 days left, I still have to complete the VLSI assignment, my record, and most importantly, the new cipher. I’ve been working on Enigma for the past year, yet I’ve never successfully created a perfect hack-free version. Now, I think I have managed to overcome all it’s shortcomings. See the Enigma page for further details.

I wonder how often Google updates their database. Sometimes it’s 2 days, other times it is 2 weeks. And at times, some sites are completely removed from the database. Well, atleast my site is stable for the time being.

Some things in life cannot be comprehended at all. Like, I deleted my Blogger blog ages ago, yet the site is still there, interfering with my current site’s ranking. And I can do nothing about it.

Well, I’ve finally got my calculator back after getting it repaired. Now, she’s as good as new, although I had to shell out Rs. 200 for the job. Oh well, guess the best things in life aren’t free…

I just finished reinstalling Windows XP. Something I did screwed up the welcome screen and it used to show only the old logon window asking you the username and password. Even a repair couldn’t fix it. I just “upgraded” XP to XP, and the system is working beautifully. Except, VirtualDrive crashed. I still have to reinstall it, but I’m in no hurry for that, since I hardly use it.

Just a clarification for those who might have any doubts. My copy of Windows XP is legal! (See my last post). I don’t need Microsoft kicking my door down and hauling me to jail! I do work with all these keygens, but for educational purposes only. There, I feel better, after having yelled a bit. Just goes to show that you shouldn’t bottle up your anger. Vent it at something, preferably a pillow, or in my case, at a wall.

Oh, well, gotta go and install SP1 now…

Today I found an interesting program, a key generator for the Microsoft XP series (Windows, Office & Visio). However, the generator is rather slow, taking upto 40 seconds to find and verify a key. I found only one key using it out of nearly a hundred searches, and I haven’t verified it yet. Don’t ask me for the program though. It is NOT on this site, so don’t waste your time searching here. Search elsewhere. Oh and in case any of you have a copy of Windows XP corporate edition, be warned. The key FCKGW-something may work and activate your copy too. But Windows XP service pack 1 will detect this key and will not install on a system with this key. Buy a legit copy if you want it.

Well, I finally have the answer to the puzzle I posted on 13th September: Let the king, queen, mantri, his wife, the bodyguard and his wife be denoted by M1, F1, M2, F2, M3 and F3 respectively. Let F1 & F2 cross the river and let F1 get down and F2 bring the boat back. Then, let F2 & F3 cross the river and F1 bring the boat back. Now, M2 & M3 cross and M2 & F2 return. We now have the bodyguard and his wife having crossed and the king, mantri and their wives still to cross. Now, let M1 & M2 cross and let F3 bring the boat back. Now all the men have crossed, and all the women are back on the other bank. Finally, F1, F2 cross, F2 comes back, and F2 & F3 cross the river. Now all have crossed the river with no fatalities. (This answer is probably most easily explained with a pen and paper though…)

Finally, I’ve redesigned my site completely. Now you can easily navigate the site with the noframes view I’ve put up. After all this, I just hope Google stays put and doesn’t chuck my site out of the listing like they did last time. Anyway, I’ve got one of the CDs from my HOD. But the damn file is encoded using a “progressive method”, which is not compatible with VCD. I guess I just have to give up my idea. Oh well…

What a comedy today! Only 22 people were present as the others decided to cut the day to go for a movie. It nearly turned sour as some of the staff, including the HOD were pissed at us. What did we do???

Well, every cloud has a silver lining. In this case, I found out that the college has got a HUGE collection of videos of classes taken by IIT profs on various topics. However, those CDs are just dumps of MPG videos. My HOD has asked me to convert the lot to VCD format. I think I should give him a formal quotation…

Finally, I’ve jotted down the algorithms and flowcharts for the µP 8085 interfacing lab. I stil have to work out a program for the 8085 kit to work out the exercises we have been given. I was thinking of bunking college tomorrow, but decided not to, coz I have to be at home on the 18th & 19th (which will most probably, be a holiday in any case. Hehehe!).

One of the disadvantages of having a sibling - the fight over who controls the remote, or in my case, who gets to use the computer. As I am almost always in front of the computer, my kid sister decides to introduce a little pain in my life every now and then. But, then, I just have to shut her out, and she shuts up for another 5 seconds. I think I hear her beginning to cry again…

That’s 5 tests down and one to go. Optical Communication is tomorrow. By the way, just for the records, I’m a big fan of the 80’s shows - Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Airwolf and MacGyver. I don’t know how many people have heard about these shows (especially in India, though Knight Rider was telecast on Star Plus back in ‘94/’95). Unfortunately, all the tapes on which I recorded the shows are affected with fungus. So now, I’m on the lookout for a guy who will clean the fungus and convert the video to VCD. It could cost me quite a bit, as I have over 8 tapes (each on Long Play mode with about 5-6 hours of video). Oh well…

Tonight, I went out for dinner to a new chaat center next to Nilgiris. The food is quite good, especially the Pav Bhaji, which was neither too spicy nor bland, just the right combination. Maybe I should keep the get-together at this place…

Finally, my lab session went off well. I had to complete an AM detection circuit, which was too easy, as well as a pending FM generation circuit. After what seemed like an eternity, the circuit gave a perfect output, leaving me with almost 2 hours free in the lab. My microwave lecturer is a real gentleman. He was substituting for our Lab-in charge, and when we told him we wanted to go to the canteen, he allowed us! If our in charge hears about it, she would have probably cancelled our attendance for the afternoon session! Oh, well, all’s well that ends well…

Friday, December 6th, 2002

Damn, my calculator decided to kick the bucket. Looks like I’ll have to resort to some technical mumbo-jumbo to try and revive it. I went to Alwarpet to get the damn thing serviced. The guys there said there was something wrong with the circuitry. So, I’ll have to wait a week till I get it back.

Oh well, at least I still have my old calculator.

Thursday, December 5th, 2002

Unfortunately for us, the college decided to have a meeting after-hours. Which meant that we were to stay back till 5.30pm. That one hour meeting could have well been conducted by cancelling the last hour. Oh, well…

Wednesday, December 4th, 2002

Looks like a week of work, work & studies. The unit tests have begun and will end only on next Wednesday. With the helluva cold that I have, I don’t know if I can even stand straight, let alone write a bugging test in DBMS…
